what people say

Made Establishment

MAdE Establishment is a dynamic collection of the best restaurants in Melbourne headed by a group of forward thinking restaurateurs and venture capital investors.
With some of the most iconic dining brands such as The Press Club, Hellenic Republic, Hellenic Hotel, Gazi and Jimmy Grants, the business required a proven and experienced Chief Executive Officer to continue to grow the portfolio and support the board of directors in their strategic objectives.
MAdE Establishment approached several Melbourne based executive search firms who possessed a track record in the high growth private equity and venture capital space. ADAPT was appointed formally to the CEO mandate.

What impressed the Board of Directors about ADAPT was their ability to identify, attract and deliver against a tight timeline to meet several external factors. This search worked with a board who were uniquely different in their personal styles, yet completely aligned strategically and operationally on what they wanted to achieve with the appointment of their new CEO.
ADAPT made it their business to get to know us. They were highly credible, engaging and went above and beyond to deliver a short-list of what we believe was some of the best executive talent in retail food. We are now in a formidable position with a strong leader thanks to the support and partnership model at ADAPT.

Luxottica is a global leader in fashion, luxury and sports eyewear. Luxottica’s international footprint in Australia & New Zealand has embarked on a cultural and business transformation over the past 12 months and thus has been experiencing a challenging yet exciting period of positive change. Due to this change, we required an executive search partner to uncover and identify a senior retail management position. ADAPT were identified as the executive external search partner due to their extensive experience within Retail and track record of success with Luxottica prior to this brief.

ADAPT first and foremost understood our business. This was a process that ADAPT ranked as the number one priority prior to commencing a formal partnership with Luxottica. Whilst they’re based in Melbourne, ADAPT didn’t hesitate to jump on a plane and be in Sydney at our head office to meet all key stakeholders and understand intimately the culture, the strategy and each executives vision for the business. The search was conducted with insight and intellect. Their networks were exceptional and ADAPT were able to generate a compelling long-list of suitable candidates. The executive team at Luxottica, short-listed down to six. We were delighted with the outcome of securing a candidate beyond our expectations and someone we see as adding tremendous value to our team. It wasn’t just the methodology and result which enabled ADAPT to be viewed as a true partner, it was the agile approach and the genuine care for our executive team which ensured a mutually beneficial outcome.

GURNERTM is owned and founded by Tim Gurner, well known executive in the Australian property industry. GURNERTM has seen significant growth over the last decade, primarily in medium to large scale iconic apartment living within Australia. Due to such growth and expansion, Tim approached ADAPT through industry recommendations in the Melbourne marketplace to conduct a confidential search for a key executive appointment in his business overseeing group operations. In addition, ADAPT worked strategically with Tim and his executives to review their operations from a people perspective enabling best practice structuring and processes.

ADAPT was selected for the following reasons – delivery and quality, market knowledge and track record, coupled with a genuine care and interest for GURNERTM direction and values as a business.
As GURNERTM is a privately held group, both parties got each other. They were talking the same language from day one and this resulted in an exceptional outcome for all parties.
Due to the unique offering of the appointment, and the exciting opportunity which faced upcoming talent in the industry, ADAPT offered GURNERTM numerous options to select from which GURNERTM found extremely beneficial. ADAPT thought outside of the box but stayed true to the end objective which was to deliver an executive who will assist in the short, the medium and long term future of the business growth. To date, both parties work collaboratively together across Human Capital Advisory and Executive Search mandates.

Melbourne Airport

Melbourne Airport is owned and operated by Australia Pacific Airports Corporation, which in turn is owned by institutional investors, predominantly superannuation/pension funds and other investment groups.

As one of the most dynamic asset classes operating across aviation, property, retail and car parking, Melbourne Airport was embarking on a structural change which required key talent to drive our property portfolio with a strong commercial focus. ADAPT was engaged to conduct an international search, which covered both Australian and Offshore markets for their head of property appointment.

ADAPT’s success was set up from the first conversation with Melbourne Airport. They took the time to understand the key decision makers, the organisational structure and change transformation which was embarked on over the 2015/16 period. ADAPT’s approach was detailed and thorough, yet at pace. We embarked on a search with ADAPT, which looked for some specific skill sets and cultural fit requirements that we felt were unique to the changing environment at Melbourne Airport. ADAPT was highly effective at engaging and educating the marketplace and key talent in the industry about this journey, which we believe was one of the catalysts to attract the right talent. Along every step of the process, ADAPT partnered with Melbourne Airport to ensure that as market conditions influenced our approach and strategy, the requirements for the talent we needed were able to change accordingly.

Emirates Leisure Retail

Emirates Leisure Retail Australia, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the high profile Emirates Group and one of the fastest growing hospitality companies in Australia. Focussed on delivering memorable experiences through our premier brand Hudsons Coffee we’ve also collaborated with some of the world’s biggest food & beverage brands such as, Heineken and Wolfgang Puck to dominate the travel sector in Australia. Putting the emphasis on people we strategically positioned the business to hire a commercially minded, Head of People to support the rapid growth we are experiencing.

Having known the team at ADAPT for many years in a previous business, I engaged their executive search practice to find a highly commercial and culturally forward thinking HR professional to lead our people transformation and growth strategy. ADAPT’s approach is genuine and down to earth, they spent quality time getting to know the pulse of my business and met with me and the leadership team on multiple occasions to establish trust and understanding of the brief. They put together an edgy and engaging candidate attraction strategy which drew an outstanding short-list, making the decision incredibly tough. However we worked together on a solution which vetted the right fit for us, along with the technical capability required. We are delighted with the result and if I was to sum up the point of difference it would be the quality of candidates throughout the process was exceptional.
