The Problem

Our client is a global interior design and workplace consultancy who engaged One Executive to recruit their Managing Director for their Sydney office. A few months later, it was confirmed their Managing Director of Singapore would relocate internationally to open up their UK and European operations. Therefore, they needed to find a senior profile in the Asia region who would be able to not just handle the smooth transition of leadership, but continue to grow the business across various Asian countries.

The Solution

Given how critical it was to find the best person to replace the MD of Singapore, we advised our client to widen the search to countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia etc. Following a detailed candidate market mapping exercise where over 80 profiles from there competition were assessed, in consultation with our client, we proceeded to approach 17 of these candidates. People were interviewed from a range of locations in the Asia Pacific region.

The Outcome

While a number of candidates were very interested in the role, a candidate based in Singapore stood out to One Executive as the best fit. Their industry and technical skills were always going meet our client’s criteria, however it was their leadership and communication style, mixed with our understanding of what chemistry would work between the incumbent and the existing Singapore team (as well as the Founder). We recommended they meet this individual first, and if not comfortable, they could then meet the other 4 candidates on the broader shortlist. The Singapore-based candidate was met, and following a number of interviews over 4 weeks, that person was appointed.
